Oral History Event held at Assumption College

The audience at Assumption College on December 10 was alternately enthralled and intrigued by Dr. Steven Knott's presentation, Reagan, Bush, and Clinton: An Oral History Perspective. Dr. Knott was the main speaker at this event, sponsored by the Worcester Women's Oral History Project (WWOHP), and presented an enthusias-tic address to a gathering comprised of faculty and administrators from local colleges, students, WWHP and WWOHP members, as well as individuals from the community. Dr. Stephen Knott, Associate Professor of National Security Studies at the U.S. Naval War College and former Co-Chair of the Presidential Oral History Program at the Miller Center of Public Affairs at the University of Virginia, will be the main speaker at the Worcester Women's Oral History Program on December 10 at 4:00 p.m. in Hagan Center Hall at Assump-tion College. Dr. Knott will discuss the value of oral history as it relates to presidential history.

Schlesinger Library at Radcliffe Is New Repository for WWOHP Histories

The Worcester Women's Oral History Project (WWOHP) is privileged to announce that the Schlesinger Library at the Radcliffe Institute of Harvard University is the new repository for its 150 oral histories of Worcester's women. The Schlesinger Library maintains collections relating to a wide range of American women's activities, providing rich material for research-ers and historians from around the world. Charlene Martin and Maureen Ryan Doyle, Co-chairs of WWOHP, hand-delivered the documents to the Schlesinger Library in October.

A Woman's View of Providence

The bus trip from Worcester-to-Providence was organized by WWHP to highlight the connections among reformers of the mid-nineteenth century, particularly Rhode Island’s Paulina Wright Davis and Worcester’s Abby Kelley Foster.

Barbara Barnes of the Rhode Island Historical Society was the tour leader. The group enjoyed a twenty-minute bus tour of Providence, including a stop at the John Brown home. Lunch at Providence Place Mall followed, as well as a tour of the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) by docents, highlighting “Women Artists and Women in Art” tour.

The event was enjoyed by 49 women.
